Giving birth has a massive toll on your body, meaning you are bound to see some changes to your overall health and wellbeing. The problem is that a lot of mothers aren’t made aware of this until after it has happened. It is extremely common to experience a whole host of postpartum health concerns that make alterations to your body, but they aren’t things you should be particularly worried about. 

 

Usually, the concerns are more aesthetic than anything else. So, here are some of the most common postpartum health concerns you really don’t need to be worried about: 

 

Urinary Incontinence

Naturally, as your hips widen and you squeeze a baby out, the muscles in your pelvic floor are bound to weaken and become looser. As such, it’s highly common to experience urinary incontinence after giving birth. 

 

Don’t worry, this is highly normal and nothing for you to be worried about. Improving the strength of your pelvic floor can be all that’s needed to correct this. Alternatively, there are some non-surgical treatments to help urinary incontinence as well. 

 

Hair Loss

A lot of new moms are prone to hair loss following the birth of their child. There are two reasons for this, the first of which is stress. Caring for a newborn can be very stressful, leading to an increased chance of your hair falling out. The good news is hair loss treatments exist for some of the more extreme cases, but most women can prevent hair loss by finding ways to reduce stress levels and getting enough nutrients to encourage hair strength and growth.

Perhaps the most common of all issues following the birth of your child. It’s pretty obvious how and why new moms experience stretch marks. This is simply part of giving birth that you have to learn to expect. The human body will react to massive changes, and there’s not a lot you can do to prevent this. 

 

Thankfully, these marks will fade over time and tend to look a lot worse as soon as you give birth. You can also find topical creams that help them fade, and there are plenty of other techniques and ideas used to get rid of stretch marks. Will you ever get rid of them completely? Probably not, but that’s nothing to be worried about. Think about it like this, your stretch marks are a badge of honor. They’re a constant reminder that you put yourself through the hardest physical task that anyone can ever go through, and you made it out on the other side. Stretch marks are sexy, so embrace them!

 

Yes, your body will change when you give birth. Don’t assume that you will magically return to your pre-pregnancy look because that won’t happen. Be prepared to experience one or all of these things, but don’t be worried about them. Most are treatable, and they don’t have a negative impact on your overall health.
