When it comes to Texas brands, there are a few icons: The Dallas Cowboys, Whataburger, the Spurs, and James Avery. This home grown jewelry company started in 1954 in the small town of Kerrville, Texas, but today they boast over 50 of their own stores in Colorado, Georgia, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, North Carolina, Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Alabama, and of course, Texas.

Growing up in the Midwest and moving to San Antonio 8 years ago, I think the first time I encountered a James Avery piece of jewelry was my friend April’s charm bracelet. Silver and dangling with probably a hundred charms, she always has it on and adds to it with every special occasion. I’ve always admired the sentiment, quality, and simplicity to James Avery’s designs. It’s instantly recognizable on Texas women, whether the silver and gold is adorning their fingers, necks, wrists, or ears.

So needless to say I was thrilled when the eponymous brand asked if I’d like to pick out a little something for Christmas. After perusing their site and agonizing over several tantalizing options, I finally settled on these sweet and simple Starry Night Ear Posts. I’ve been pairing them on the same side if my hair is swept to the other, or one on each side to fill my second piercings while my first has a statement earring. I love that these beauties, like every piece from James Avery, is true to their mantra: simplicity over everything.

So what do you think? Are you gifting anyone you love with James Avery jewelry this year? I can’t wait until the girls are old enough to start their own charm bracelets, and with the recent release of their new Whataburger charm I know there are a lot of people excited about the brand’s next move.

Do you have a memory of your first James Avery piece? A special moment it commemorated? My favorite jewelry is the ones that tell a story: the trip where I found it in a local shop, the college graduation gift, or the sentimental first “promise” ring Orlando gave me. Yes, we were dating way back when promise rings were a thing.

During the holidays and beyond, our style should be more than just in the moment trends, it should also be timeless mementos that will last a lifetime. That’s what James Avery brings to your jewelry collection, and now to mine as well! Be sure to make your holiday list by shopping on their website and sending your favorites to your friends and family for some not-so-subtle hints. I’m personally crushing on their Tiny Texas gift set, and their new line of genuine leather handbags are currently in just a few stores with complimentary embossing! Check out their Instagram Huebner Oaks Stories for a sneak peek!

Thanks to James Avery for a beautiful pair of earrings, but more importantly for elevating Texas fashion and jewelry industry for generations. I’m excited to see how Sarah Herr (my fellow FGI Board Member and Director of Design at James Avery) will influence the brand with her aesthetic, and wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

XO,

A
