Everyone tells you that with your second baby, you’ll just walk out the door with one diaper and a handful of wipes and call it a day.  Gone is the well-stashed diaper bag, gone are the unnecessary trinkets that just weigh you down with your firstborn.  I haven’t found that to be entirely true so far.  There are still some things we received as gifts for Issa that have come in handy more than once.  And I’m not ashamed to admit it. Or share the details with you all. 😉

1. Fisher-Price Auto Rock ‘n Play Sleeper

We received this as a gift from our family this go around, and I had heard amazing reviews even back when I was pregnant with Cora.  I have to say, it totally lives up to the hype.  It’s got all the bells and whistles, but it’s also as simple as a snug little spot for your baby to feel secure and snooze the night away.  Issa sleeps in here the majority of the time, but it’s low enough and small enough that we can keep it right next to the bed and I feel like I can see her if I need to.

2. Philips Avent Comfort Breast Shell Set

I know I mentioned these in last week’s post about breastfeeding, but I’m just obsessed.  Did I mention how much milk I’ve been able to freeze just by collecting it with these babies? And they’ve made the torturous first month of tender nipples much more bearable.  Again, though, I have to reiterate that you HAVE to empty them frequently, otherwise you’ll be experiencing the ‘Ol Faithful of breastmilk coming out of your top every time you bend over.

3. Philips Avent Soothie Pacifier

Cora never took to a pacifier, but Issa has gloriously decided she’s rather fond of them.  I was adamantly against pacifiers before I had kids, but I totally understand the appeal now.  And with a three year old in the house, there is quite enough noise as it is.  The Soothie brand has been Issa’s favorite from the get go, and I like that the nipple shape is at least somewhat comparable to mine. No nipple confusion here, woo!

4.  Munchkin Arm and Hammer Pacifier Wipes

Since it’s my first go around with a baby who uses a pacifier, I hope you won’t make fun of me too much for being THAT mom who actually cleans the pacifier, too.  I like that these wipes are specifically made for pacifiers, even if it is just marketing.  And they’re a nice, smaller size so I don’t feel like I’m wasting an entire wipe on a teeny tiny pacifier.

5.  Aden + Anais Muslin Swaddle Blankets

We were gifted these with Cora as well, but I have really put them to use with Issa just as much, if not more so than with her big sister.  I think with your first you’re always halfway terrified you’re going to break them, but then baby number two comes around and you have no fear in wrapping them up nice and tight.  These blankets are BEYOND soft, eco-friendly, and they come in the cutest prints.  Perhaps the best part, though, is how large they are, making swaddling a snap.

What were your go-to products for baby number two? Did you add anything to your list as babies kept coming or was it the bare minimum for your subsequent tots?

XO,

A
