After last Thursday’s Fiesta Fierce show, I had the pleasure of meeting designer Valerie Perez, whose work you’ve now seen in both the Fiesta show, as well as the IADT Imagine show.  We’re obviously fans of her design here at Haute in Texas but now I was curious to sit down and see what this stylish chick is all about.  The cold hard facts?  She’s just as adorable as her dresses!  Check out the interview below, and feel free to “like” her Facebook page here if you are as smitten as we are.

Haute In Texas:  How did you get your start?

Valerie Perez:  I was always into crafting, t-shirt reconstruction, and I just decided I wanted to take it to the next level and see what I could do designing my own clothes!

HIT: What’s your inspiration?

VP:  It depends, I usually just try to design for the show, or for the audience.  I want to make sure the people who are going to be watching will like my clothes.

HIT: Do you have a favorite spot to shop in San Antonio?

VP:  I am the worst shopper!  I honestly stick to places like Dillard’s, Ross, and Marshall’s.  But I like picking out random pieces that I know I will not see anybody else wearing.

HIT:  What’s the next step for you?  Any long term goals?

VP:  I really need to brand myself.  And design my own line, an entire collection.  Eventually I want to open a boutique here in San Antonio.  But I want to showcase other local designers as well, not just my own work.

HIT:  What are your favorite trends for this season, or in general?

VP:  For Spring I love flowy, lighter, really feminine pieces.

HIT:  Last question, one I always ask in every interview…Pancakes or Waffles?

VP:  Waffles, with syrup!

In case you missed it, you can check out Valerie’s designs from the IADT Imagine show below.  Let us know what you think!
