Everybody claims to want to shop local and small these days, but then many of us, myself included, still resort to Amazon Prime when it gets down to crunch time. If you live out in the ‘burbs like I do as well, it can seem like shopping cute boutiques in the heart of San Antonio is out of reach. My friends, I’m here to tell you: your days of making excuses are over. I stopped by the OPEN Holiday Market this past weekend on Houston Street, and not only found parking AND a ton of gifts for those on my list, I also supported local artisans and shop owners in the process.

The City of San Antonio’s OPEN downtown pop up shops have been around for several years, but this holiday season’s installation features 14 local businesses, and THIRTEEN of those are owned by women. Can I get a YASSSSSSSS? Don’t tell my family, but I found two dresses for my nieces from a young woman who sources her clothing lines entirely from South Korea, artisanal soaps for my dad because he’s a germaphobe, handmade leather jewelry for my mom because she LOVES colorful and funky matching sets, and some all-natural beauty products and jewelry for myself as well! There are also talented artists like Gio DiZurita, clothing boutiques, leather handbags sourced from Colombia, homemade mole and hot chocolate from Mexico; literally there’s something for everyone on your list.

OPEN Holiday Market

The Holiday Market is open this upcoming weekend as well, so if you’re still on the hunt for that special someone on your list, I highly recommend checking it out. Parking is easy just across the street or in lots around the block, and the shops are open Friday and Saturday 12pm-8pm and Sunday from 1pm-7pm. The Facebook event covers all the details, and you can invite your friends who are always preaching about shopping local too! 😉

XO,

A
