Every year as Orlando’s basketball season winds down, I start to feel like I’m struggling to stay afloat. This year especially, since we stayed behind in San Antonio for Cora to start Kindergarten, it was a long six months essentially solo parenting. But each time as we hit playoffs and I know it’s just a couple weeks, give or take, before we’re a “normal” family again, my nerves start to wear thin.

And then he’s home. And I can breathe again. Course if I’m being honest we usually have a week or so of “adjusting”, which basically means me telling him how things have been done for the past six months and Orlando graciously accommodating his slightly crazy wife. But there’s a peace that comes when we’re all together again. A sense that all is right in the world.

That is, until San Antonio’s infamous allergies strike. Orlando has struggled for a while with sneezing and congestion when the air in South Texas basically tries to kill everyone. I’ve even noticed over the past year that I’ve become more sensitive to the pollens and infamous cedar everyone falls victim to. They say if you don’t have allergies when you move to SA, it’s only a matter of time until you develop them.

That’s why it was perfect when Blueair reached out just as Orlando was coming home AND Asthma and Allergy Month (May) was about to start. They offered to send us their Blueair Classic 605 air purifier and Blueair Aware Indoor Air Quality Monitor to test out and see if it could improve our indoor air quality. After checking out their online reviews, and the amazing promise they make to reduce your indoor air pollution to almost zero, we decided to give it a try.

Orlando and I both occasionally snore, and we’ve noticed right away that we no longer have issues with that. We also occasionally wake up with sore throats (probably says something about how often I dust), and that’s no longer happening either. Finally, we’ve actually been able to track the difference in air pollutants with the Blueair Aware Indoor Air Quality Monitor and the Blueair Friend app in real time to see the difference it’s making in reducing pollutants. A few days we left the monitor on, but the purifier off, just to see if it would pick up on the difference and WOW. There was an immediate correlation between not using the purifier and a major spike in pollutants.

We personally like that you can control the air purifier from your phone using the app, and it also gives you the ability to check your local outdoor air quality as well. The purifier offers three different air flow speeds, and we’ve mostly been using the second level. The third is a bit loud, but when we move the purifier into our open living room it isn’t bad at all. I should also note the purifier is on wheels, which is SUPER handy if I want to move it between rooms for sleeping at night and playing during the day.

So now with Orlando home AND a Blueair purifier in our home, I can breathe. Better than ever, actually.

A
