Over the past several weeks, we’ve walked through the entire process of redoing our floors with O’Krent Floors from measurements at the house, to shopping at their showroom, to finally the big reveal today! As we discussed last week, installation was a breeze, and after a full day at the park with the girls, we came home to the crew cleaning up. They had placed everything back where it was supposed to be, minus the little knick knacks that we would place in their beloved spots. So…have you guessed yet exactly what we had done? Drumroll, please…

Our stairs, landing, and our master bedroom are transformed! What do you think? From builder beige carpet to deep, rich hardwood, we couldn’t be more thrilled with how it all turned out. Let’s take a closer looks at the stairs first, shall we?

One of our biggest concerns with the stairs was being able to find a hardwood that would be cohesive with the railing and the dining room hardwood. We also wanted to use real hardwood after Jason O’Krent gave us the excellent feedback that stairs in an entry way will draw folks’ attention more than anything else. Using laminate or a cheaper material will be much more obvious at eye level for someone, so we selected this Alamo Jameson Hickory. It’s a 5″ plank, handscraped, and has a satin finish. We chose white for the risers in the same shade as our baseboards to add a pop of brightness and modernism to the entryway.

Initially I thought the hardwood floors would scare me a bit going up and down for the girls, but they’ve transitioned well, and once we cleared off the initial dust and debris they’ve also been surprisingly easy to keep clean. It’s amazing to think how much dirt and dust is collecting in your carpets that is simply swept away when you make the switch to hardwood. Now are you ready for the master bedroom??

We kept the same hardwood throughout, and I love how the handscraping really catches the light from the bay window. We’ve been keeping our windows open during the day now, and it just completely changes the whole feel of the room. I also had the perception that I would instantly hate the feeling of cold hardwood on my feet in the mornings, but I actually haven’t minded having a rug there for now. Perhaps we’ll find one we love and add in the future, but for now I think we’re just enjoying the richness the hardwoods bring to the room.

So which one is your favorite, the stairs or the master? Any questions you’re still dying to have answered about flooring? Let me know in the comments.
