THIS IS NOT A DRILL: IKEA is finally opening in San Antonio!

When I was growing up, every so often my mom would break the wonderful news to me: we were going to Chicago, and we would be stopping at IKEA. It was about a 4-5 hour drive away from us, so this was a special treat. We would pick out all sorts of treasures every trip: storage units, flower vases, pillows, and even bedroom sets. My first college apartment was head to toe IKEA. When Orlando and I first got married, we relied on IKEA to furnish our first little apartment. And then when we were decorating our first “real” home, as opposed to the baby condo that was our first starter home, we still went back to IKEA for filling up those big, empty rooms. If I really stop to think about it, IKEA has been there for me at every major stage in life, and that might explain why I am so happy they’re finally opening their first San Antonio (Live Oak specifically) store! Just look at the joy on my face LOL.

I was absolutely stoked to attend the press preview for IKEA Live Oak this week, and couldn’t wait to step foot inside those doors to peruse all this new location will have to offer San Antonians. It was everything I could have imagined, from the Swedish meatballs to the over FORTY inspirational rooms curated top to bottom with exactly the home furnishings IKEA’s designers picked for San Antonio consumers. It was heaven, and I know you’re going to love it too.

So when’s the official grand opening date, you ask? Drumroll…February 13th! There’s actually a special preview for IKEA Family members (more on that in a minute) on February 9th, but just in time for Valentine’s Day the store will open to the public. I smell a date night in the works, don’t you? And the GIVEAWAYS. Y’all. Here’s the scoop:

Speaking of Smaland, this might the most brilliant part of IKEA. Affordable, modern, fabulous home furnishings I can peruse at my leisure while my children play in a giant ball pit? Yes please. This would be a BRILLIANT mom’s play date mid-week where you don’t even have to WATCH your children. When we lived in Israel we actually checked the kiddos in to a Smaland at an IKEA in Haifa without understanding a word of the waiver in Hebrew. That’s how much I trust IKEA. LOL.
